Diamonds inside a light globe, against purple back.
My series of Ideas is a social commentary on societies “throw away culture”. The Edison light globe is a dead technology but one that had a massive impact on the world, with most of the evidence of this invention being simply trashed and replaced.
Haven't made any for so long so I thought I'd better get stuck into some new work. Hope it's at least aesthetically appealing, even though it's not as deep as some of my other works.
um probably not at this stage... honestly i was hoping it would turn out better than it has and then yeah i might have done a series of different colours. I might revisit it though now you've mentioned it
I love the diamond ideas. This one especially. I see in it the ridiculous excess of the rich; Gold plated every goddamn thing, $4,000 sink faucets, solid gold golf tees, etc. This diamond bulb looks like it came right out of their "Too Rich to be Taken Seriously" catalog. Or maybe it came from the ceiling light fixture in Zaa Zaa Gabor's tool shed. Either way, it's very beautiful/ugly. Well done mate!
yeah that is pretty much my point. Glad someone got it (Zaa Zaa Gabor's tool shed made me laugh). I do like to avoid letting my art come across as decorative. I'd for one hate it if someone bought my work because it looked good but they never thought about what it meant. Cheers Mate
I'll tell ya...when I "got it", I got it immediatly. I believe that's what good art does. With that begining, you can THEN explore it, appreciate the creativity, it's detail, craftmanship, it's place among other art and artists. But if you need to do all that exploring to "get it", then I feel the art fails the viewer. Like you, I have issues with art being sold as decorative commodities. It kinda drained the pleasure for me that I was seeking in my own stained glass business. I began to feel I was making just another pretty *thing* to match the drapes or blend with the sofa. I'm not bothered by those who do that, it just wasn't the satisfaction I desired. And like you, I get what I want by expressing my true self and my own visions. I don't do *pretty* anymore. I do pretty fuckin' personal. And that, my friend, is how we found eachother. On my "paydays", I don't need to go to the bank. I can just read yours, and others, kind comments, and I'm satisfactorily Paid in Full! So Cheers to you!
Couldn't agree more Jim. And i like the way you explain it. Your stained glass work is clearly highly skilled, and I can see how that could so easily become a craft, rather than art, with people asking for works because it would go so well in their lounge room. It's something I am always talking to my students about with the studio works they produce and even in music.
It could mean also to throw away the stereotypical way of seeing others...
Although we may appear invinsible or unreachable, we are made of a thin layer that separates our inner self from the world, hiding almost all our golden self. Huuu~ I got carried away hahaha... XD
I may not comment all your artworks but it's as simple as sublime, with either perspective SO, I like it XD

i like your comments, actually discussing art not just the visual image.
you can get carried away on my work any time.
thanks
